Looking for job

I'm looking for a job at the moment. If anyone's interested in hiring a software engineer well-versed in open-source technologies, please get in touch (CV attached).

In the meantime, I've let this website lapse somewhat. Drupal is an impressive piece of kit, but I like to tinker, and with Drupal that means tinkering in PHP, which I'm not fond of. The plan is to build a new website using Ruby on Rails, once I have time to devote to it.

First post of 2009!

So here it is, the big 0-9!

We got back from Morocco a couple of days ago and whilst there we decided it would be a good thing to do more blog posts. So here goes - my official second post!

We had a great time in Morocco seeing the family, eating good food and generally relaxing. We were sorry to go, but I for one had really been missing our little ratties. We stepped off the plane in England to a lovely sunny day at an impressive 7 degrees. It didn't last. The rest of the week has been freezing and hovering around the 0 degrees mark. :( Read more…

Spelling

I propose we put disagreements of Commonwealth vs American English spelling well and truly to bed by adopting completely different spellings altogether. I always read "color" as "koh-law", whereas I'm sure many Americans would read "colour" as "kol-hour".

I propose: CULOUGH

We could also have "initialeyes" and "centa".

WYSIWYM & Vim gripes

I'm so unbelievably sick of the current state of document processors. Don't get me wrong -- I love that OpenOffice.org is doing so well, but everyone knows it's a Microsoft Office clone. KOffice at least is breaking the mould and doing things a little differently, but basically they all use the same WYSIWYG design. Ask any web designer, application programmer etc... and they will all tell you of the importance of separating content from style, or model from view. Why are things so different in the world of document editing? Read more…

Birthday Ratties

It was my birthday a little under a month ago, and Sophie really nailed a surprise gift. We'd been talking about getting pet rats for a while. It's been a wish of mine for many a year, but whenever we talked about getting some we always resigned ourselves to not being able to afford a large enough cage etc... Read more…
