The Image Galleries
OK, here we go, I've managed to get images all sorted out in Drupal. No mean feat it has to be said. On the right you can see one of my favourite pictures of the two of us on our wedding day (30th June 2007).
A new Image Galleries section is up, containing a decent number of our wedding photos. We haven't had the time to badger the rest of our friends into giving us copies of all theirs, but I'm sure more will follow shortly.
I'm using Drupal to put this site together, and I have to say I really appreciate the modular design and thought that went into it. For the most part, it's been a breeze to set up. Getting images and attachments working in a nice way was tough, but I settled on a combination of modules in the end:
- Filemanager and Attachment:
For general node-specific attachments that we're unlikely to use again. I like the way this combo organises files on a per-node basis. This can be used to include images too, although it's slightly clunky because the attachments don't become "active" until the node is submitted. - WebFM:
For large files that I need to upload manually to the server, and that may need to be shared by several nodes. It provides a nice way of organising files in directories and can manually add/remove files from the database neatly. - Image (with submodules Image Gallery, Image Import, and Image Assist):
This group of modules adds support for the creation of image nodes that can be included in galleries and other content nodes. It's good for global images that may be shared by several nodes.
