Romans 8:28

The above verse reads: "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose." (ESV) Well, I wish that meant that nothing ever goes wrong for Christians, but unfortunately it's not that simple :) A couple of things have gone wrong so far today.

Firstly our home server (Evey), who hosts this website, developed noisy-fan syndrome. Since she sits right next to me in our office when I'm working from home, this got rather frustrating and in the end I gave up hoping it would fix itself, shut her down, and gave her a good clean. She's purring like a kitten now, but I tell you that I'm frustrated, because I was working toward a record uptime. She was at 69 days, 22 hours, 47 minutes when I shut her down. I'm going to have to wait another 3½ months for 100 days now :( Not a life-shattering event though.

The really gutting thing is that when I went to an outside window to blow a cloud of dust out of the heatsink, the following sight met my eyes:

Smashed Window (from house)

My poor car! She's an old and cronky Micra, but she's belonged to at least 4 members of my family so far and is still in amazing condition, and I still think she's nicer to drive than Sophie's Corsa. On closer inspection:

Smashed Window (close, portrait)

Grr. I can't understand why people do things like that. Anyway, I better get in touch with RAC & Autoglass and see what they quote.

Your car

I can only sympathise and agree how gutting that must be! At least Sebastian is still ok, I assume?

If you perhaps thought this was an unfortunate side-effect of living in Birmingham, I can tell you that Bristol is just as bad. I've been burgled twice in 6 months (my car and my bike shed) in what's supposed to be a low-crime area here.

We're actually wondering if

We're actually wondering if it might just have been the wind, maybe in combination with a twig. The windscreen smashed when I was on the motorway a few months ago for no readily apparent reason. The car is getting rather old now. Also, there was nothing taken, although there wasn't really anything of any value in the car.

Sorry to hear about your break-ins though. Were you able to claim on insurance?
