Window Found
Continuing the story of the broken car door: we have been wondering whether it might have just been the wind that caused the window to smash, maybe in combination with a twig or something. There were strong winds around that time, and a few months back the windscreen smashed for no apparent reason when I was driving on the motorway. My poor car is getting old.
Anyway, RAC quoted £160 for a new window, and Autoglass was about £100 more than that. The car probably wouldn't sell for that now! Sophie was brilliant and looked around various breakers' websites looking for spare parts and eventually found one. For £23.50 we got a new window and I whipped out the Haynes Manual and set about fitting the window on Friday evening:
(If you're curious, Sophie's car wasn't that close when I did the work.) That white stuff around the outside of the door held a thin plastic sheet in place and is really horrible. Getting it off my fingers was a nightmare, even at a sink. I haven't reassembled the door yet because of all the broken glass that's still collected there:
We'll have to get rid of the car eventually though, as we really can't afford to keep maintaining two of them, especially since Sophie stopped working. At least this will put the date back a little for now :)
