Font Rendering
Posted November 20th, 2007 by Paul Gideon DannI'm a perfectionist by nature, so something as fundamental as on-screen font rendering is a big deal to me. In my quest toward a usable Linux desktop, I decided to look deeper into the way font rendering works, and what is available. Read more…
David Turner's Patches
Posted November 27th, 2007 by Paul Gideon DannWhen looking into font rendering in Linux, I couldn't understand why the subpixel rendering was so bad. It felt as though I was the only person in the world that noticed the horrific colour fringes around the letters on my LCD screen, as I found very few comments about it online: Read more…
My Hope Rests Firm
Posted November 4th, 2007 by Paul Gideon DannWe sung this song at Church this morning. Sophie came down the aisle to this tune on our wedding day, so it brought back good memories, but today the words were a great comfort to me, so I thought I'd share them.
My hope rests firm on Jesus Christ,
He is my only plea.
Though all the world should point and scorn,
His ransom leaves me free;

The Beginning
Posted October 26th, 2007 by Paul Gideon DannRight, well these things have to start somewhere I guess. For quite some time now I've been planning to set up some kind of website to host projects and ideas that I have drifting around. For now at least, this will do. Read more…
Open iTerm Here
Posted January 22nd, 2008 by Paul Gideon DannI recently downloaded iTerm because it has tabs and generally seems cooler than MacOS X's Terminal. Anyway, I went on the hunt for an "Open Terminal from Here"-type application for the Finder toolbar because:

- The one I already had opened Terminal not iTerm,
- I couldn't find the source for the old one.

The Image Galleries
Posted November 2nd, 2007 by Paul Gideon DannA new Image Galleries section is up, containing a decent number of our wedding photos. We haven't had the time to badger the rest of our friends into giving us copies of all theirs, but I'm sure more will follow shortly. Read more…
New Page: How to Build a Universal Gecko SDK for Mac
Posted October 27th, 2007 by Paul Gideon DannI work for a company that makes Firefox extensions (Glaxstar), and as a result I need to build binary XPCOM components for some projects. Two weeks ago I was supplied with a shiny new Macbook Pro and so I set about getting what I needed to get XPCOM compilation working. Read more…
FUSE and inotify
Posted January 8th, 2008 by Paul Gideon DannI do apologise for my somewhat sparse posting schedule. Apart from the fact that there's been plenty to do over the Christmas & New Year period, I've been finding it pretty difficult to find time to work on the things that interest me. When I'm done with work for the day, I usually don't feel like pummeling my head with more programming braintwisters. However, my hope is to one day work for a decent and interesting Open-Source related company such as Trolltech (makers of Qt). Read more…
